Embedded XP successor in the pipeline

There’s not really much news leaking out of Redmond about the next version of embedded Windows but you can be sure that many hands are coding hard. That said, Microsoft has released the final version of embedded XP - ‘Windows Embedded Standard 2009′ - just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? Expect to see this release rolling out the door around the end of 2008.

What next? If rumours are anything to go by, we should see a Vista based replacement by 2010. Note that I said ‘Vista based’ - I hope we don’t see the flaws and bugs currently in Vista.

The Microsoft embedded software is designed to power PoS devices, games systems, thin client devices and many more besides.
